Donnie Darko sequel S. Darko starts shooting May 18
UK-based sales company Velvet Octopus will
be launching sales in Cannes for S. Darko,
billed as the sequel to the 2001 cult hit
Donnie Darko. Fox has already taken North
American rights. Daviegh Chase reprises her
role as Donnie's younger sister. The cast
for S. Darko also includes Ed Westwick (Son
Of Rambow, Gossip Girl), Briana Evigan (Step
Up 2) and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball).
Ash Shah's Silver Nitrate and Newmarket
Capital are producing. Los Angeles-based
Chris Fisher, who previously made
Nightstalker and Rampage: The Hillside
Strangler Murders, will direct. The budget
is pegged around $10m.
The story picks up seven years after the
first film (and Donnie's death) when little
sister Samantha Darko and her best friend
Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los
Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre
visions.
Fisher said in a statement: "I am a great
admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to
create a similar world of blurred fantasy
and reality." Producers have spoken to
Richard Kelly about the project but he is
not involved in any official capacity at
this stage.
Simon Crowe of Velvet Octopus added: "I
think there is a new generation of
cinema-goers who will be very excited to see
this film." Crowe quipped to ScreenDaily:
"Donnie's not in [the new film] but there
are meteorites and rabbits."
Ed Westwick's Chuck is the cause of much
drama and trouble on Gossip Girl, but in
real life, the actor says he's been the
victim more than he has an antagonist.
The 20-year-old actor grew up with two older
brothers, who had their own way of bullying
him much like the dismissive elder sibling
character he plays in his new flick Son of
Rambow.
My middle brother, Will, could be a demon,
Ed tells OK! He pushed me off a stool and
broke my arm. But he used to take me on his
adventures in back of my parents house.
Theres a small forest area where we used to
build treehouses. One time, he pushed me out
of the treehouse. I had a sore back for
days.
Such abuse is typical of brother
relationships, Ed says, and it's almost an
unwritten rule that "you treat your brother
like for the lack of a better word
s***."
But all those cuts, scrapes and bruises are
things of the past now.
In later years, we look back on it and
laugh at it, Ed says. He was very
impulsive when he was younger. He didnt
realize what he was doing until afterwards.
These days, Will enjoys his baby brothers
success.
Ed Westwick may play a bad boy on Gossip Girl, but
in our hearts, hes oh so good!
1. When was your first kiss?
Um ... 6? Well, what are we talking, we're
not talking proper kiss, right? Okay, 6 and
... 10. No, is that bad? Should I say 11?
I'm pure and innocent.
2. Who's your celebrity crush?
Scarlett Johansson she has been for a
while, and always will be. I love her style.
3. What's a girl fashion trend that
confuses you?
None. As long as it's done the right way, I
think it'll be attractive. It's not about
what it is, it's about who's wearing it.
From my limited knowledge of women's
fashion, everything is pretty good.
4. What's the girly movie you secretly
love?
There was a really good one, but I can't
think of it.
5. What's your TV guilty pleasure?
Watching Gossip Girl [laughs]. I can't stand
watching myself on TV. I think I share the
opinion of my character that a lot of the
audience shares: It's a "love to hate" kind
of thing. As the season's progressed, I
think everyone's had sympathy for him. I
think he's an alluring character; he's very
interesting. He has these slices of his
personality. He can be the devil, but at
times he can be very charming. It can be a
very dangerous concoction. I think he has a
good heart, but his heart is often tempted
by corrupt desires.
6. Who would play you in the movie
version of your life?
Chase Crawford! No, no. I don't know. Chase
Crawford can play the villain. I'd like to
see Daniel Day-Lewis spend three months
getting into my character.
7. What's your dream job?
Probably landscape gardening. I think
gardens are fantastic, and I'd love to draw
and design and stuff like that. I love just
planting flowers during the summer. There's
something very humble about it, and natural
and beautiful. When I need to think of like
a peaceful scene or something, I think of my
back garden in summertime. And whenever I
hear the lawnmower next door, I always think
it's really peaceful.
Gossip Girl's resident troublemaker, Ed
Westwick, stopped by Good Day New York to
discuss his much loved CW series, as well as
his new role in the film Son of Rambow.
"I'm the protective big brother who
eventually realizes his responsibility,
Westwick says of his movie role. "I'm very
familiar with the whole relationship. I had
an older brother who wasn't always the
nicest."
Speaking of not always being the nicest, Ed
opened up about playing Chuck Bass on Gossip
Girl. "Everyone has kind of gotten used to
him being this bad kind of person, Ed says,
adding, "But he's redeemed himself in some
ways and people have grown to like him."
When it comes to dishing on his own love
life, Ed stays mum about who his real main
squeeze is, although he is quick to admit
that Scarlett Johansson is at the top of his
celebrity dating list. "I love her whole
style," he says. "She really does it for
me."

footage of Ed, Chace & Leighton at an upcoming photo
shoot for TV Guide Magazine.

Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick: Single and Ready to
Mingle!
Like the Jody Watley song, Ed Westwick is 'looking for a new
love, baby.' "I'm very single," the Gossip Girl star, 20,
admitted at the John Adams premiere held at MOMA in NYC on
March 3.
When OK! caught up with Ed back in October, he was deeply
involved in a relationship with Louise Shaw, who hailed from
his hometown of Stevenage, England. He bragged about making
her a full English breakfast complete with bacon, eggs,
sausage and baked beans. But now that his situaton has
changed, what does this dashing Brit look for in a woman?
"Good sense of style and confidence," he tells OK!. As for
him, potential love interests should know he can't get
enough of the board game Monopoly and doesn't dig
McDonald's. "That food is so bad at McDonald's," Ed says.
"It's really not that great." So what else can his dates
expect? "I'm a lounge guy. I love playing pool. I love
finding someplace where it's quiet enough that you can
control the jukebox and get on with your life."
Ed also loves to hang with his Gossip Girl castmates Chace
Crawford and Penn Badgely, but he stays away from alcohol
"I'm underage, man!" Because his character is a villain on
the show, Ed says some people are wary of him. How does he
prove them wrong? "I take everybody I meet out to dinner,"
he jokes.
